We’re still catching leaves here at the lake while waiting for our first snow.  Not that I’m rushing it along, but once it turns cold it might as well turn white, too!  Now is a fine time to bust out the skis or snowboard and have them waxed and tuned for the 2015/16 season. Greetings from Deep Creek Lake-News-Sailing-Events. There are many reasons to love the lake!  One of my favorite past times is watching the sunrise.  And thankfully, our 2 ½ year old son makes that possible at 6:00 each morningJ.  He enjoys it just as much as we do and chatters away with excitement as we watch the sun come up over the mountains and listen to the birds chirp each morning.

Deep Creek has been in the media quite a bit recently.  My hometown was rated one of TripAdvisor’s 30 Rising Vacation Rental Destinations in 2015.  And we were also featured in a Washington Post article “Where to Shop for that Home Away From Home”, where I was interviewed in regard to current buyer trends.

If you’ve ever considered learning to sail, start right here on peaceful Deep Creek Lake.  My husband Bob took the week-long course two summers ago and caught the bug.  His description of his experience is summed up here.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to join so I’m not able to crew but I’m not sure that’s a good idea for a married couple anyway!  Bob had nothing but good things to say about the DCL Sailing School.  Classes book up fast; do not wait to reserve your spot.

Real estate showings are heating up and offers have been coming in on some properties early in the summer season, which is a healthy sign of stability for our market.  Our featured listings this month range from Lakefront, Lake Access and Lake Area Homes & Home Sites – some of which are new to the market and some which have had $10,000-$50,000 price adjustments.  And a few are established rentals generating $60K in annual income.  There’s something for everyone at the lake!  This is a link to our featured listings where you can view photos and visual tours (attachment shows a printable version of the same): http://mrislistings.mris.com/DE.asp?ID=63571918628.

There are quite a few activities coming up in the next week’s – Fire on the Mountain, Taste of Garrett, Boat Parade and Maryland Symphony to name a few.  And our local Chamber of Commerce site has an event calendar as well.

Greetings from Deep Creek Lake! If these photos do not smell like summer to you then it’s time to get out and enjoy your own slice of paradise here at DCL!  For Mother’s Day, we paddled to Trader’s Coffee House – my request– for a café au lait and protein wrap.  One of my favorite summertime stops by boat or paddleboard.  Griffin enjoyed his first 2015 slice of sweet watermelon just this week and as you can see it made him very happy!  Jensen is experiencing one of his first ice cream cones and is still deciding if the brain freeze is really worth it!

There is a change coming to our county building permit requirements as of July 1.  Although the sprinkler system ordinance has been around for quite a while, Garrett County was able to work around its enforcement until now.  Sprinkler systems will now be required in all new single family dwellings.  If you are planning to build in the next year or so, you can apply for your building permit in June to avoid the sprinkler system requirement.  A building permit is good for one year.  The county will host a seminar on June 3rd from 3:00-5:00 in Room 205 of the Continuing Education Building at Garrett College.  Presentations will be made by two gentlemen in the fire protection industry and the county will also review the permitting and inspection process relating to the installation of residential sprinkler systems.  Anyone is welcome to attend.

The Spiker Team’s Featured Listings are two beautiful waterfront homes, neither of which have ever been rented.  They are both equally pristine and ready to occupy.  Close to the water with nice views and a single dock slip.  For additional info/photos/tour: http://mrislistings.mris.com/DE.asp?ID=63044257276.

Greetings from Deep Creek Lake,

I hope your weekend was full of family fun, laughter and chocolate bunnies!  Our boys, Griffin & Jensen, were not phased one bit by the furry guy.  Quite shocking actually!  The lake thawed just in time for a beautiful backdrop (photo taken from Unos/Honi).  In just a few months the Honi-Honi lawn will be buzzing with people of all ages who have come out to enjoy the live music each Saturday afternoon throughout the summer.  Dining by boat is just one of the things I look forward to doing on the lake each season.  Paddleboarding, water skiing and fishing are also up there on my list!

Real estate inventory is climbing, as it typically does in the spring.  If you are contemplating investing in your family’s future at the lake, be sure to let us know if you have not been setup on our auto email program.  We use the MLS database to create your search, which includes all company’s listings, saving you the hassle of having to visit different websites to find potential properties.  This program allows us to build a customized search using your parameters so that you will be notified of new listings that come on the market within your criteria.  The information needed from you in order for us to build this is: 1) Land or Home, 2) Price Range, 3) # of Bedrooms & Baths, 4) Lot size, 5) Water Orientation (Lakefront, Lake Access and/or Lake View), 6) any other Features that are important (i.e. a garage, rental income, fireplace, etc).

Our Featured Listings for the week are a chalet with lake access on 5 acres (new listing), a contemporary home with a dock slip in The Pinnacle (price reduction), a lake view home in Deep Creek Highlands (new listing) and a beautiful lakefront home on Lake Shore Drive with a private Type A dock (new listing).  http://mrislistings.mris.com/DE.asp?ID=62272245040

It’s That Time…Start Scheduling Your Summer Home Maintenance Projects

This time of year is when our minds tend to shift toward cleaning up our yards, garages and vehicles.  To get started, begin compiling a list of projects to get your home ready for the new season. Consult the checklist to keep projects organized and on schedule.

Clean your outdoor cooker – Make sure to get ready for all of those upcoming BBQs you will be having in the summer months by deep cleaning your grill.
To clean a gas grill: Turn up the heat to high with the lid closed for about 30 minutes. Once the grill has cooled down, use a grill brush to clean the grill.
To clean a charcoal grill: Empty the grill completely, cleaning off any leftover ashy residue with dish soap and warm water. Allow enough time for the grill to dry before you use it next.

Plan a watering schedule – Planning a watering schedule will ensure that your plants will stay healthy and hydrated during the hot summer months.

Trim tree limbs touching or near roof surface – Summer months can mean stormy weather. By performing regular tree maintenance you can reduce the risk of storm damage.

Vacuum upholstery and pillows – After getting the patio furniture out of storage, vacuum the upholstery to remove dirt and dust.

Clean out rain gutters and storm drains – Removing debris from gutters and storm drains can prevent clogging during storms.

Change out the HVAC filter – Put in a fresh filter at the start of the season to prevent indoor air pollution.

Wash all windows – Since the temperatures are up, this is a great time to get out and clean your windows.

Have your roof inspected – Have your roof inspected for leaks every 3-4 years or more often as it ages.

Clean out dryer vents – This is the perfect time to check your dryer vents to prevent build up.
