Greetings! Deep Creek Lake was not spared the Friday night storm. We were personally lucky to have avoided a power outage but some others were not so fortunate. The radio said there were roughly 4,000+ people without power after the storm. There are still a few isolated areas without power. We did, however, fare much better than areas to our East. Many of our clients and friends made an unscheduled visit to their vacation homes at Deep Creek Lake because they were without power in the DC and northern VA areas.
The DockDogs event that was held at Wisp this weekend was quite a site to see! I was out of town but my wife Betsy was fascinated by how far some of these dogs can jump, from Chihuahua’s to German Shepherd’s. It’s definitely an event that will go on my 2013 calendar. P.S. The dog is hard to spot in this photo; he’s flying through the air just to the left of the red ball!
Now, on to the beautiful weather and fun 4th of July week ahead of us. The fireworks display will take place at dusk on Wednesday evening from the tubing park at Wisp Resort. You can watch from your car along Garrett Highway, by boat in McHenry Cove or from the Independence Day Concert taking place under the tent at Garrett College (beginning at 7:30pm). This week, July 5-7, at Garrett College under the tent is “Chautauqua”. “Exploring the War of 1812 in Maryland” is the theme. The complete schedule is on the link below. http://www.artsandentertainment.org/pages/chautauqua.html
Looking ahead…The 91st Annual Western Maryland Tennis Championships are scheduled on the clay courts in Mountain Lake Park August 2-5th. Whether you are a tennis player or enjoy being a spectator, you can catch some great tennis! http://www.mlptc.org/
The Spiker Team’s featured listing of the week is a beautiful home within 5 minutes of Deep Creek Lake on 5 acres with its own pond, stream and barn. Convenient country living! http://vt.realbiz360.com/MLS-1041549.html

Make no mistake about it, I love all the seasons here at Deep Creek Lake, but spring has a way of grounding me to a calm center of balance and rejuvenating my spirit. For the first time in 2011, last night I left the screen door open in my bedroom and let the comfortable spring air ease me to a deep and wonderful sleep. This morning I awoke to the peaceful sounds of mountaintop birds who were also singing the praises of spring with a spectacular sunrise over a sheet of glass, calm lake. I can’t think of a better way to enjoy breakfast then sipping on a warm cup of Folgers medium dark coffee and eating a bowl of oatmeal overlooking the lake with an orchestra of soothing sounds around you. A nice quiet seven minute ride to work and I am in my office at Long & Foster ready to help buyers from all over to find their dream home in this ideal town. Feel free to give me a call if you have a question about activities, weather, or if you are in need of a passionate real estate professional who is excited and motivated to help you find your special home in this fantastic town. I’m excited about spring, I’m enthusiastic about the real estate market, and I am hopeful that you give me a call if you have any questions regarding Deep Creek Lake real estate.
Real Estate Market Update-Deep Creek Lake MD-Spring 2011. Springtime is upon us here in Deep Creek Lake and the vital signs of our real estate market are at a steady and encouraging pulse. “Traditionally”, springtime and summertime hail as our busiest times for home buying and we “normally” see a lot of second home buyers shopping for their dream home here at the lake. Well, words like “traditionally” and “normally” are fine for folks in the real estate profession who count on the climate in the business to remain the same. As we all know, we are on the upswing of a grand recession and only current facts and knowledge should guide us in our decision making process.
This week, me and my wife, Betsy Spiker Holcomb, took the 4 + hour drive to the town of Richmond, Virginia to learn from legendary Real Estate guru Brian Buffini about the latest and most current information regarding all aspects of real estate. We were not alone as we shared the conference center with 1,500 other agents trying to learn as much about the current market as possible to pass on this valuable knowledge to their clients. The Spiker Team has always committed a substantial amount of time and money traveling around the East Coast to stay educated on the current real estate conditions from land/lots sales, secondary home sales, resort sales opportunities, updates in lending practices, facts about loans and interest rates that may help you in deciding the best time to buy, myths and facts about short sales and foreclosures, and so forth.
Email Betsy Spiker Holcomb for a current fact sheet that we have prepared pertaining to relevant real estate information that will surely be of value to you if you are considering to purchase or sell real estate.
