Ski/In Ski/Out Property-Wisp Resort. Ski in/ski out or slope side access have different personalities just as lakefront does. For example, you may be able to ski-in but not out or vice versa.  You might have to walk to the chairlift to get to the slopes but then you can ski back to your property. True ski-in/ski-out access means you’re actually skiing to and from your mountain property. Ski-in/ski-out can be located here at Wisp on the upper to mid portions of the mountain. Wisp Resort has condos at the base of the mountain near the lodge as well. The perks and conveniences of this style property is second to none. Imagine having a cocktail watching the game while rotating time on the slopes with the family. Boot warmers, ski lockers, washer/dryer with a mud room help keep everything convenient and easy. Come in from a ski sesh, strip and get into warm clothes and defrost by the fireplace with a hot cup of cocoa! When you get warmed and energized, hit the slopes again!

Here on Marsh Mountain surrounding Wisp Resort, there is a nice selection of different ski-in/ski-out neighborhoods. Boulder Ridge, Kendall Camp, Highline, Villages of Wisp, are all solid options that have different personalities.  Give Betsy Holcomb a call at 301-616-5022 on your next visit and explore the wonderful wintertime real estate options for both personal and investment opportunities.

Snow Making Begins at Wisp Resort

Snow Making Begins at Wisp Resort

Snow Making Begins at Wisp Resort. Yesterday afternoon Wisp Resort took a step toward the winter season by firing up the snow cannons and making snow. The forecast looks good throughout the weekend and through most of next week for snow making. Temps are hovering around 14 degrees this morning and will be below freezing all except one day in the next 10 days. The startup date for snow making is random each year but traditionally happens in December so don’t fear folks, I am optimistic we will be on the mountain before Christmas!  The target opening date is December 17th.

Crews from the resort are scouring around diligently trying to work out the kinks and bugs in the snow making systems so that they can inch toward the grand prize… Opening the slopes for all to enjoy!

Take some time and reflect on the wonderful memories that you have shared with friends and family here at our special Little Tahoe of the East! Best wishes for a fantastic winter sports season and we hope to see you on the mountain soon!Snow Making Begins at Wisp Resort Snow Making Begins at Wisp Resort Snow Making Begins at Wisp Resort Snow Making Begins at Wisp Resort

Renovation project began in the fall of 2015 and will continue through spring of 2018.

The Lodge at Wisp part of upgrades to ski resort

As part of a three-year $3.7 million-dollar renovation, wisp Resort recently announced a rebranding of the Wisp Resort Hotel which will be known as The Lodge at Wisp. The renovation project on the hotel began in the fall of 2015 and will continue through spring of 2018.

The Lodge at Wisp will welcome guests with significant changes and improvements to both the interior and exterior of the property. The upgrade will offer more contemporary accommodations, new outdoor Gathering spaces, and overall more modern and functional designs.

Work on the 169-room slope side hotel has totaled more than 1.5 million so far. A new entrance features a porte cochere with an outdoor gas fireplace and timber frame structure with stacked stone facade and lighting. The landscaping is highlighted by a waterfall, benches and day pergola walkway.

Interior renovations include an updated front desk and check-in area to compliment the new entrance. The 100-rooms on all six floors in the tower section of the hotel have been renovated, and 16 new king Suites have been introduced into the guest room mix. The remaining 69 rooms on three floors in the lodge section of the hotel will be renovated by Spring 2018.

Additional upgrades are being made to conference rooms, a new fitness center, exterior signage, courtyards with fire pits and enhanced landscape features. Construction on the current project will be completed in time for the ski season. Work will continue in the spring on a courtyard on east side of the hotel plus renovations to the lobby and the new front porch.

For more information about the upgrades call Wisp Resort, call 301-387-4000 or visit www.wispresort.com.

Low Lake Levels - Deep Creek Lake

Curious about the low lake levels?  Here’s the scoop.  Construction is proceeding on the Western Conveyance Sewer System (Shingle Camp Road and Stockslager Road) and the installation of the sewer line near the breast of the dam works best at the lowest possible lake levels.  The power company has been cooperating with the sewer construction contractor to make releases to bring down the water level.  Those additional releases have enabled more whitewater fun on the Youghiogheny River.  Never fear, though, we have been assured that the “intake” for snowmaking water will be maintained.  It is now time to “THINK SNOW!”

Student Loan Debt-Hogan Announces First SmartBuy Purchase

Program will Ease Student Loan Debt, Promote Homeownership!

ANNAPOLIS, MD (November 21, 2016) – The Hogan Administration today announced the first home purchase under a new homeownership initiative designed to ease the burden of student debt. Maryland SmartBuy, within the Department of Housing and Community Development, is the first program of its kind in the nation and will make move-in-ready homes available to buyers while eliminating student loan debt burden, which is often a significant barrier to homeownership for younger homebuyers.

Maryland SmartBuy is the latest initiative in the Hogan administration’s ongoing commitment to help qualified buyers move out from under student debt and into homeownership. The event was attended by Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford and Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Kenneth C. Holt.

“With the launch of SmartBuy, Maryland is among the first in the nation to actively address student debt as an obstacle to homeownership,” said Lt. Governor Rutherford. “We recognize that first-time homebuyers play a pivotal role in the health of the housing market, which is critical to the strength of Maryland’s overall economy.”

This law, which was introduced by the Hogan Administration in the 2016 Legislative Session, authorizes the department to make direct payments on student loans in conjunction with other financial assistance or residential mortgage loans offered under the Maryland Mortgage Program, beginning with the Maryland SmartBuy initiative.

Under the initiative, eligible buyers with student debt can purchase move-in-ready properties made available through the department. The typical buyer can realize substantial savings on quality homes throughout Maryland. Specifically, Maryland SmartBuy will:

Eliminate the buyer’s student loan debt

Provide the buyer with one convenient payment per month

Enable the buyer to access attractive financing and closing cost assistance

Ensure a safe, streamlined, and straightforward home buying and financing experience.

“With Maryland SmartBuy, our state is at the forefront of removing the obstacle of student debt to successful homeownership,” said Department Secretary Kenneth C. Holt. “We want to empower young people to establish roots in Maryland and help strengthen our state as they enjoy the financial security of homeownership.”

The initiative will create an innovative home buying model that could be adopted by the rest of the nation. Mortgage loans will be provided through the department’s Maryland Mortgage Program, which has been the state’s flagship homeownership assistance program for over 30 years. Traditionally, the program provides fixed-rate mortgages, primarily to first-time homebuyers, along with other down payment and closing cost incentives.
