About Swallow Falls State Park
In 1906, John and Robert Garrett donated over 1,900 acres of land to the state. It is now known as Garrett State Forest. Swallow Falls State Park and Herrington Manor State Park are both part of this donated land. In the 1930s, they were developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Annual Christmas Tree Lighting
November 24, 7PM, Uno’s/Honi-Honi Bar
Check out the Christmas tree lighting on the lawn of UNO and the Honi. Santa will be there for photo too. Area favorite, Boathouse, will start playing at 8PM.

Springs Folk Festival
Within a half hour from the Deep Creek Lake area, you will find the historic village of Springs, Pa. It takes place October 5 and 6 from 9AM-5PM. The Deep Creek Lake Art, Wine & Beer Festival is one of the best loved area events. It takes place Saturday, September 7, 2019. Visitors and residents alike enjoy the festivities. It makes for a great Deep Creek Lake weekend getaway. Also, you can bring the entire family. So, there is no need to leave the kids at home!
This is also a special event because it benefits HART for Animals and the Garrett Lakes Arts Festival. Both are important non-profit organizations that serve the local area.

Deep Creek Lake State Park is a favorite spot during all four seasons. There are tons of fun activities, and the scenery is spectacular! Your entire family could easily spend the whole day here. Also many areas of the park are dog friendly!
Deep Creek Lake State Park Day Use Areas
The park encompasses about 1,800 acres. The day use facilities include the park’s waterfront and picnic areas. You can access it from 8 a.m. until sunset. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, there are two guarded swimming beaches. Bring your lunch, and take advantage of picnic tables and grills. There are three playgrounds as well. You can fish from the shoreline when you’re not playing in the sand with the kids.
Currently, Wisp Resort operates the Beach Hut at Deep Creek Lake State Park. They rent canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, beach chairs and tubes. Paddling into Carmel Cove is a great way to enjoy the scenery. Continue reading Deep Creek Lake State Park Quick Guide
Mountain Fresh Farmers Market is one of my favorite things about summer in Garrett County. Vegetables, fruit, locally raised meat, farm fresh eggs, honey and pottery are just a few of the items you can pick up. Also, my kids love it too! They enjoy helping to choose the different, brightly colored veggies to take home. It is truly a highlight of life in Western Maryland.
